Concept Design for Water Supply System

1. Water demand

Defining correctly the water demand at the beginning is the most important and sensitive part of the design as it is at the base of all further steps.

The attached paper (pdf file) will help you to go through necessary steps according to your specific context and give you advises on which information to collect and how to collect it.

3. Water storage needs

Tanks are an essential component to balance the difference between the demand and the supply, but they have also other uses. Over sizing might be as bad as under sizing.

The attached paper (pdf file) will help you to understand the storage need for your system and the importance of a good manage

4. Gravity pipeline

The complexity of the design of a gravity pipeline is often underestimated.

5. Pumping station and pipeline

1) Enter you system specs to find you pump or the opposite.
2) Calculate necessary throttling or speed reduction.
3) Check if the water surge might be a problem...

Draft version, surge analysis should be included

6. Distribution networks

You can already use the Excel tool with its short tutorial.
You will first have to define the simultaneous factor, then you can use a table similar to Gravity Pipeline, but for distribution with intermittent demand.
